Ford Puma 2020 ST-Line – A Simple Review!

Ford Puma 2020 ST-Line finally arrived here in Australia. Well, as per the first impressions, Puma looks like a deserving contender for a challenging segment, but it needs to deliver to provide a tough competition to its rivals such as Honda HR-V, Hyundai Kona, Mazda CX-3, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen T-Cross etc. So, let’s see what the Ford Puma 2020 ST-Line has to offer for the Aussies.

The Drive

Puma ST-Line’s main highlight is its on-road performance. Well, it’s a joy to drive the Puma, it is amazing. The steering, grip, balance and poise are all fantastic. This ST-Line’s sports suspension tune was developed by drivers for drivers. This chassis provides delight and reward to the person who loves driving. No tangible negatives as far as city driving is concerned. On the move, Puma’s safety systems are well-assessed and smartly fine-tuned. It gives you excellent outward visibility; it’s easy to park and reversing camera with a 180-degree view is quite effective. Puma renders a sharp and crisp 10.5-metre diameter turning circle.

How Safe Is Ford Puma 2020 ST-Line?

The entire Puma range has bagged a 5-star rating from ANCAP based on testing carried out by Euro NCAP in 2019. Ford Puma ST-Line gets 6-airbags, traffic sign recognition, emergency assistance functionality, driver impairment monitor, forward collision alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, as well as, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection (up to 80km/h).

What Do You Get on The Inside?

Interior Features

The interior design is out and out Ford, bringing a more upmarket feel that can be seen particularly in material use. Glossy, budget-looking plastic material are at a bare minimum, the seat cloth is tactile, and the touch-points are delightful up to the rubber-ringed middle stack dials. You get fancy digital instrumentation and Sync 3 infotainment system that is agile, spontaneous to use and easy to read.

Exterior Features

The sporty mid-level Ford Puma 2020 ST-Line exterior borrows features from both entry-level and top of the line variants. It adorns 17-inch wheels, rain-sensing wipers, rear parking sensors, heated and power-folding side mirrors, as well as, LED daytime running lights and taillights and dusk-sensing LED headlights with auto high-beam.

ST-Line gets 12.3-inch digital cluster, cloth-trimmed sports seats with red stitching, as well as, a flat-bottom paddle-shift steering wheel and metal pedals. The mid-ST-Line gets manual air-conditioning instead of the climate control feature available in both the base and top-of-the-line models. You get Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment format with an 8.0-inch touchscreen, dab+, proprietary Sat-Nav, apple and android smartphone mirroring, and Bluetooth phone and audio streaming.

Seating & Boot Space

The first row is classy, with sufficient space and breezy, a sort of hatchback feel. However, the second row is not that spacious but can comfortably seat adult occupants for shorter trips. You get a respectable 376 litres of boot space without counting the smart 34 litres of extra space available in a square, under the floor and above the space-saver spare. And the 60:40-split seating packs in a decent flat load space that will give you 1170 litres boot space up to the ceiling.

Under the Bonnet

With 92kW at 6000rpm and 170Nm between 1500 and 4500rpm, the Puma’s 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol 3-cylinder is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and FWD, the sole power train option currently offered in Australia.

Fuel Economy

With 1287kg kerb weight, Puma is indeed light-weight in the compact and small SUV segment. It’s claimed combined consumption is an upbeat 5.2L/100km; even its claimed city driving figure is quite impressive at 6.2L/100km; whereas extra-urban (driving on the country roads and motorways combined) stands at 4.6L/100km. The Puma need 95RON fuel, which is common of today’s small-capacity turbocharged engines.

Warranty & Maintenance

Ford provides a 5-year unlimited kilometres warranty on the Puma range. Ford Puma ST-Line’s servicing is capped at $299 per visit for 12 months or 15,000 kilometres (whichever occurs earlier) schedule and it extends up to 48 months or 60,000 kilometres.

How Much Does the Ford Puma 2020 ST-Line Cost?

ST-Line is the mid-level in the Ford Puma range that comes around $32000+. The entry-level FWD model costs around $29000+ and top of the line (ST-Line V) model costs around $35000+ (Prices for all three models listed here does not include on-road costs).

Conclusion – The Bang You Get for Your Money!

The all-new Puma exhibits some genuine level of quality in many spheres. It is packed with some decent gear and makes a worthy value pitch. A smashing crossover facilitating a joyous drive all through! It only seems slightly compromised as a family-hauling SUV because of its narrow second row. If your heart desires for an enjoyable drive and your mind longs for a bit of SUV flexibility, with some brilliant fuel economy, then the Ford Puma 2020 ST-Line is highly recommended for you.
